Don’t forget to buy Moroccan dirhams (MAD) before your departure to Morocco

Morocco is a destination that you covet? Are you planning a trip to admire the warm colours of this country? We advise you to plan your holiday well and above all to take with you some cash in the local currency of the country. The currency used is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). For most of your purchases and payments you can easily use your bank cards, however, you should always make sure you have cash with you. When planning your trip, we advise you to draw up a budget and exchange GBP MAD before you leave. By doing so, you will benefit from a better exchange rate.

Practical tips for planning your budget

You can plan on a budget of 495 Moroccan dirhams per day per person for your trip to Morocco. This will allow you to stay in a 3* hotel, have two meals in a restaurant and buy some food.

In Morocco you will also have the choice between guest houses, hostels and small hotels. In a hostel it will cost you between 63 and 158 mad. If you have a bigger budget, you can also find riads which are the same price as luxury hotels. You can also stay with a local by booking on the website "Morocco chez l'habitant". This can cost between 250 and 450 mad.

If you want to eat in a restaurant it will cost you between 50 and 250 Moroccan dirhams depending on the restaurant you choose. Street food will cost you less than 50 dirhams. It is easier when travelling around the country to get quick and easy street food, in this case, we advise you to have some cash and therefore do your GBP MAD exchange beforehand.
